What the Press Says:ArtsFuse, Terry Byrne:
"Welcome to From Denmark with Love, playwright John J King’s hilarious mash-up of Shakespeare’s Danish tragedy and Ian Fleming’s Secret Agent 007. In a run at the Boston Playwrights’ Theatre that was all too short, King’s Vaquero Playground productions produced a low-tech comedy that spoofed every Bond cliché imaginable while staying true to the essential framework of Shakespeare’s tragedy." The Boston Herald, Mara Littman: “Unabashed, R-rated fun.” “[T]he action moves at a fast clip with the requisite fight scenes, clever quips and turns in the sheets.” |
Edge Boston, Michael Cox:
"Vaquero Playground melds James Bond and Hamlet in their sexy, parody, From Denmark with Love. Two seemingly disparate characters come together to create a play that’s funny, fast-paced, filthy and also somehow smart."
New England Theatre Geek, Craig Idlebrook:
"[W]hat makes this play memorable is the hacker mentality that it brings to comedy; …It’s a mash-up in every true sense of the word, not just of plot, but of every comic device under the sun."
"And it’s this gleefulness, and the brevity of the script, that makes the play ultimately fun to watch."
The Hub Review, Tom Garvey:
“The show itself - a free-wheeling mash-up of Hamlet and the entire James Bond canon - is often the theatrical equivalent of a puppy: endlessly energetic, always ready for fun, and usually more than a little horny."
