John J King writes fun plays. His work has been developed and/or produced in Boston by Fresh Ink Theatre, Company One Theatre, and the Huntington Theatre. John was the inaugural Playwright in Residence at the Boston Public Library, 2017-2018.
His original comedy-horror TV Pilot BLOOD FROM A STONE won 2nd Place in the 89th Annual Writer’s Digest Script Competition, and a Top 5 Finalist for the 2021 Austin Film Festival.
John's play MUSEUM PIECE, a farce about institutional (personal, and national) diversity, will be developed at Speakeasy Stage Company, part of the 2019-20 Boston Project. In January 2019, John’s play MARTHA’S (B)RAINSTORM: A BOSTON FAIRY TALE, was awarded the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Fellowship in Dramatic Writing.
His script FROM DENMARK WITH LOVE was nominated for a 2014 IRNE Award for "Best New Play." His adapted libretto for DER VAMPYR was called "one of the most rewarding theatrical events of the season" by Terry Byrne of the Boston Globe. JJK is a proud alumnus of the 2014-2016 cohort of the Huntington Playwriting Fellows.
