I read a lot and absorb all kinds of culture. Check out my culture diary 2015 here to see a small chunk of it. In 2015 approximately 76% of my intake came from a white male authorial voice. As an experiment I am making 2016 The Year of No White Men. For me this primarily means what I read, in terms of books. I likely won't be as strident when it comes to film and television though I will certainly be more thoughtful about that than I have in the past. And I'll check in a few times in the year ahead - if things are getting out of hand I'll change it up. Here's a starting list of the authors/books I'll be reading in 2016. This represents the 40 I most want to get to (at this time...things change, desires shift) from a list of well over 100 (and I have another list of about 100 plays...). I am hoping this year opens my eyes and ears a bit wider. I'll keep you posted.
